The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) invites U.S. companies to participate in the Southern Africa Grid Resiliency Reverse Trade Mission (RTM), taking place in September 2025. This RTM provides an unparalleled platform to connect with high-ranking power sector leaders from Southern Africa, enabling you to showcase your cutting-edge technologies and services while exploring new business opportunities in a region poised for transformative energy development.
The delegation will include influential representatives from Southern Africa's public and private sectors who are actively engaged in advancing grid resiliency. Their visit will feature meetings and site visits in Denver, CO, and Austin, TX, spotlighting the latest U.S. innovations in grid management, efficiency, loss reduction, and renewable energy integration.
A cornerstone of the RTM is the Business Briefing in Denver, CO, where delegates will present details on upcoming Southern Africa power sector projects and discuss collaboration opportunities with attending U.S. companies. This is a prime opportunity to position your business for success in the Southern African market by building strategic partnerships and gaining exclusive insights into high-value energy projects.
As part of USTDA’s U.S.–Africa Grid Resiliency Event Series, this RTM underscores the agency’s mission to foster connections between U.S. companies and African stakeholders, driving sustainable infrastructure development and creating new avenues for economic growth. Don’t miss the chance to be at the forefront of Southern Africa’s energy transformation while expanding your global business footprint.

BACKGROUND
Transmission and distribution lines are crucial in West Africa due to the rapidly growing population, increasing urbanization, and the need to deliver reliable electricity to homes and businesses across the region, particularly in rural areas. However, historically, investment in generation has been roughly four times higher than transmission and distribution combined throughout Africa.
The result is a patchwork of network surpluses and stranded assets, severe power deficits and exorbitant costs for emergency power capacity and inefficient energy sources.
To help address this mismatch and ensure that electricity is traded efficiently across the continent, regional planners, such as AUDA-NEPAD and Power Africa, are prioritizing regional interconnection and other T&D projects to help increase efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure that all Africans have access to clean, reliable and affordable power.
DELEGATION
The delegation will include at least 15 Southern African power sector decision makers. Their names and organizations will be announced soon.
ABOUT USTDA
The U.S. Trade and Development Agency helps companies create U.S. jobs through the export of U.S. goods and services for priority infrastructure projects in emerging economies. USTDA links U.S. businesses to export opportunities by funding project preparation and partnership-building activities that develop sustainable infrastructure and foster economic growth in partner countries.
USTDA achieves its mission by funding feasibility studies, technical assistance and pilot projects that integrate U.S. private sector innovation into infrastructure projects at the critical early stages when design choices and technology options are determined.
