The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) invites U.S. companies to participate in the East/Central Africa Grid Resiliency Reverse Trade Mission (RTM) in July 2025. This RTM offers a premier opportunity to connect with senior power sector decision-makers from East and Central Africa, showcasing your innovative technologies, services, and expertise while positioning your business for success in a fast-growing region.
The delegation, comprising key leaders from public and private sector organizations, will visit San Francisco, CA, and Portland, OR, for meetings and site visits highlighting state-of-the-art U.S. solutions for enhancing grid resiliency. These engagements will explore technologies and best practices designed to modernize electricity transmission, reduce losses, improve efficiency, and integrate renewable energy into the grid.
A highlight of the RTM is a Business Briefing in San Francisco, CA, where East and Central African delegates will present details on upcoming power sector projects and discuss collaboration opportunities with attending U.S. companies. This is a unique chance to gain insight into high-value projects and build strategic partnerships that drive impactful, sustainable energy solutions in the region.
As part of the U.S.–Africa Grid Resiliency Event Series, this RTM reinforces USTDA’s commitment to facilitating connections between U.S. companies and African stakeholders to advance critical infrastructure development. Don’t miss this chance to expand your global reach and contribute to shaping the future of energy in East and Central Africa.

BACKGROUND
Transmission and distribution lines are crucial in Africa due to the rapidly growing population, increasing urbanization, and the need to deliver reliable electricity to homes and businesses across the region, particularly in rural areas. However, historically, investment in generation has been roughly four times higher than transmission and distribution combined throughout Africa.
The result is a patchwork of network surpluses and stranded assets, severe power deficits and exorbitant costs for emergency power capacity and inefficient energy sources.
To help address this mismatch and ensure that electricity is traded efficiently across the continent, regional planners, such as AUDA-NEPAD and Power Africa, are prioritizing regional interconnection and other T&D projects to help increase efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure that all Africans have access to clean, reliable and affordable power.
DELEGATION
The delegation will include 15 East and Central Africa power sector decision makers. Their names and organizations will be announced soon.
ABOUT USTDA
